Growing in Grace (GIG) is our Wednesday evening fellowship and discipleship time.

Make Wednesday evenings at First Church your regular GIG!   There’s something of interest for everyone during Growing in Grace Wednesdays.   Each Wednesday evening, during the academic year, members and friends of First United Methodist Church come together for fellowship and/or study.  (Meals and studies will take a break throughout the summer months.)  The schedule extends throughout the evening and includes time for a convenient fellowship dinner, prepared by volunteers.  Do come; find your place in this action-packed evening.

5:00 p.m.–Handbell Practice

Handbells are open for anyone from middle-school age through senior adults.  No matter your ability, come learn to make beautiful music to honor the Lord and enjoy the fellowship of others interested in the same.

5:45 p.m. — Dinner is Served

Each week a different volunteer group prepares a healthy meal.   This means you can come straight from your job, if necessary, and be assured of tasty fare.  Although there is no set cost for the meal, for those who are able, we ask a fair price be left in the baskets on the table.   Any money left in such a way is put into the ministries of the group providing the labor to prepare, serve, and clean-up.

6:10 p.m. — Kids’ Choirs and Kids’ Programs

Working on a rotational basis, children are grouped by age level and participate in a time of Bible study and music.   There’s so much activity and fun, if you aren’t quick on your feet, you stand a chance of getting run over by some excited young disciple!

6:30 p.m. — Youth Ministries

Students from grades 6-12 meet in the Upper Room for study, fellowship, service, or games.   It’s a great way to meet others in Christ.

6:30 p.m. — Adult Studies

Study topics may change, but the love and support shown for one another during this hour is unparalleled.   No matter the topic, the discussion is lively and the fellowship genuine.   Expand your horizons on Wednesday evenings, topics below.

7:30 p.m. — Chancel Choir Practice

A cornerstone of the music ministries of First United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir practices each Wednesday evening from 7:30 until 8:30.   If you love to sing, join this lively team of adults to harmonize for the Lord.

Adult Study Groups meet at 6:30

Scripture Based Faith in Practice
During this time together we will explore how Old Testament and New Testament scripture shapes (or doesn’t) how we live out our faith (or don’t) in real time in the real world. Our first session with God’s desire for order – and how it relates to our chaotic lives. This will be facilitated by Pastor Lloyd and designed for all ages/genders young and old.

Reassurance-FUMC Women’s Group

A 10-Session Study from Beth Moore

The Old Testament story of Esther is a profile in courage and contains many modern parallels for today’s overloaded and stressed woman.

Esther, while a queen, lived as an outsider in a hostile environment. Women will learn strong lessons of faith, providence, and hope to equip them to live courageously “for such a time as this.”

This group is facilitated by Angela Clapp.
