Worship Arts

Using the arts to express our joy in the Lord is a privilege.  The goal of our Worship Arts Ministry is to help spread the word of God by creating a spiritual worship environment of sound, visuals, and lighting. Through instrumental and choral voices we strive to create an atmosphere to connect with God.  Immerse yourself in the experience or, better yet, share your own gifts.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church leads in worship every Sunday at the 10am service.  Choir rehearsal is held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:45pm in the Adult Choir Room.  The choir also presents seasonal music throughout the year, including an Advent Service of special music.  This year’s cantata will be presented on Dec. 4 at the 10am service.  Anyone interested in joining the choir is welcome and more information can be obtained by contacting Laura Ritter at laura.ritter@ws.edu

If you’ve ever wanted to sing with the chancel choir, but kept talking yourself out of it, now’s your chance to try it out!  On February 19, the choir and tenor Blaine Tooley will present an evening of special music, and YOU are invited to join in.  Anyone who would like to sing with the choir  is invited to join rehearsals on Feb. 1, 8, and 15 at 7:30 and Feb. 12 at 11:15am.  The music is easy to learn and chosen with care to help new singers enjoy this experience.  No further commitment is required, although we think you’ll have so much fun, you’ll want to keep singing!

FUMC Adult Handbells rehearsal is held every Wednesday evening from 5:00-5:45pm in the Adult Choir Room.  The group presents offerings in worship approximately once a month during the school year.  The group is open to anyone aged 16 and older, and new members are welcome! For more information, please contact Laura Ritter at laura.ritter@ws.edu

Children's MusicThe FUMC music ministry provides opportunities for children ages 4-11 as part of our Wednesday night activities.  Children are introduced to the concept of worshipping God through singing, movement, and playing instruments.  They also participate in worship on a quarterly basis.  For more information, please contact Laura Ritter at laura.ritter@ws.edu.

FUMC also offers a summer camp for children.  WAC (Worship through the Arts Camp) is a week-long event that allows children to use their creativity and imaginiation to worship and serve God.  The week culminates with a musical presentation and also includes art and crafts and recreation.   The 2012 camp will be offered beginning July 16.

Technical ArtsIn addition to our music arts ministries, we also staff sound boards, lighting, and video media and create quality media for weekly radio broadcast and podcasting.  If you’re looking to make a real difference and engage your gifts, check us out!   (We’d love to expand into camera work and videography…now here’s an opportunity to use your gifts.)
