Wednesday evening Children’s Ministry: A growing and lively children’s program on Wednesday evenings needs additional volunteers to work with the children in music and discipleship programs. If you love to help kids grow in the faith, contact Mary John Wilson through the church office at 865-475-2827 to find your spot. Training is available.
Summer – Appalachian Ministries of the Smokies Meals for Missionaries: For one week each summer, First Church volunteers will prepare breakfasts and suppers for missionary field teams working under the ministries of AMOS. Individuals and groups are needed for meal preparation, serving, and cleanup, Monday through Friday of that week. This is a wonderful mission outreach opportunity and a chance to participate in serving those who serve. A sign up sheet will be posted in the church kitchen beginning in May of each year. For more information, call or email Linda Schumann at LindaWestSchumann@gmail.com
Needlework: If you love to knit, crochet, sew, or quilt, join with others in the Prayer Shawl ministry and/or Quilts of Valor effort. The prayer shawl ministry makes and blesses knitted, crocheted, or sewn lap shawls or shoulder shawls to give to those who suffer and let them know of God’s love and the prayers that lift them up. They meet together once monthly to work on their projects; and some contribute to the ministry from their own homes. Quilts of Valor also meets monthly and contributes to the national effort to cover all combat service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor. It is not necessary to know how to quilt; basic sewing is all that is needed and the more experienced seamstresses are always happy to help a beginner.
Worship: Each meaningful worship service is supported by many willing individuals serving in various roles, such as ushers, acolytes, music, greeters, A/V technicians, to name a few. The worship team at First Church welcomes all persons with the heart to serve.
