Rev. Karolyn Banes--better known as Kristie, grew up in Pulaski, Virginia, on her grandparents' dairy farm. She graduated Radford University with Bachelors of General Studies in 2003, graduated Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC with a Masters of Divinity in 2009, and Ordained Elder in the Holston Conference in 2011. She just celebrated her 24th year in pastoral ministry in July 2024.
Pastor Kristie is passionate about God, Jesus and the working of the Holy Spirit which will come across in her conversations and preaching. For her, it is ALL about relationships with God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit), each other (community of believers), our neighbors and sharing the message of Jesus in multiple ways. She enjoys working with other churches for community events, i.e. prayer gatherings, joint services and outreach. And also, building relationships in the local community.
She says, “I believe God is limitless in possibilities if we have the courage to step out in faith trusting He will provide the way. May God overwhelm you with His love, shower you with His grace, and surround you with His mercy.”
Faith is the cornerstone of First United Methodist Church. It is part of every activity that we do, every meeting that we hold. We believe in our Lord, and that our actions are a reflection of his goodness. Come and see.
We look to the Lord for guidance in our lives. In Scripture, we find all that we need to guide us in the right path. Reading and understand Scripture helps us all live meaningful lives. Come and see.
We welcome each and every one to encounter the Lord's unconditional love--regardless of history, ethnicity, gender, or social background. Inside each of us is a purpose and meaning to be fulfilled by God. Come and see
Youth is a unique period of life, one filled with exploration, discovery, excitement and fulfillment. First Church Youth Ministry provides a nurturing, loving environment for young people exploring the world. It is a safe place where faith guides exploration and self-discovery.
The Gospel has a message for everyone, of every age, and in every language. Exposing your child to the Lord's path when they are young gives them guidance, hope and strength that lasts a lifetime. Children are included in every aspect of our church life, with special class time for little ones on Sundays and our Steps of Faith Preschool offering guidance to little feet 3 weekdays during the school year.
